    1. Innovative Design – I am passionate about making and creating something unique and personal. House of Gharats takes you through a powerful journey combining tradition and innovation to create artistic and cultural magic.
    2. Making a difference – this is very important to me, I want to be a part of something big and do whatever I can to help others and make the world a better much brighter place.
    3. Empowering women and girls – design is a super power and one we should use to install positivity and confidence in every wearer and dreamer. The rich, beautiful designs and craftmanship within every scarf outline strength and unity.
I would consider it an honour to work for a company with an incredible ethos and creative drive.

When looking through this website I noticed three poignant things:
    – I admire that the “brand is driven by the values of art and craft, rather than fashion, and as a result, our designs are not about trends but are timeless ethical clothes that can be passed down through the generations.” This has always been a goal of my own. I love the concept of passing clothes down through generations and the idea that as a textile designer – you can create a print that is so meaningful that families hold on to it for years. Today items of clothing are discarded far too easily and it is merely contributing to textile pollution. So, I admire the fact that House of Gharats looks to produce ethical garments.

    – Love the saying that Neishaa Gharat coined: “design is a superpower.” I love this premise. It shows that design can be used to implement change. It shows that by illustrating ideas in prints you can increase awareness amongst a modern society.

    – Love the concept behind the Blue Scarf Collection – which was inspired by the Commonwealth Blue Charter Commission. It is so important to look after the ocean and fix pollution issues. I also love the vibrancy of the scarf and the fact it is made from a sustainable source: seacell silk. It is important to find renewable sources of fabric that are biodegradable in an age where textile pollution is so high.

    1) I love that the products exhibited on your website don’t compromise on quality or aesthetic at the expense of creating a sustainable product.
    2) The timeless nature of the scarf is rejecting the current destructive fast fashion trends that are contributing to today’s environmental crisis; this shows consumers a viable alternative to the ‘buy more, wear less’ culture perpetuated in the fashion industry.
    3) I agree with your commitment to breaking poverty cycle and your mission for equality. Supporting local business, diverting away from exploitation of cheap labour and assuring opportunities business opportunities for women is more important than ever in today’s social climate; we must celebrate difference and recognise the importance of giving a platform to people who have historically been excluded.

The 3 reasons I was attracted to House of Gharats are first, I really feel that all elements of fashion need to be sustainable, seeing that you make a conscious effort to be sustainable just shows the thoughtfulness and value of the company and collections. This leads me to my next point, another thing that enticed me to House of Gharats was the delicacy and thoughtfulness behind the inspiration for your designs. The stories, traditions and culture behind your designs is what makes them so beautiful and special and I feel that is what I would love to incorporate into my designs. Another reason I was drawn was because of the intricate designs themselves. Two particular collections that stood out to me were the ‘Arts Of Seduction’ and the ‘Tigers Fashion Party’.

1- The fantastics prints. They are vibrant, colorful and full of elements, they really caught my attention.

2 – The culture, I really appreciate that. The prints are not only beautiful, but they tell stories, they have so many details that delight the product and the consumer.

3 – I loved the Queen’s Horses Collection, it’s rich in colors, but are all very well thought out and the elements are very rich in details, I like this type of work.

    – After looking at the website, what it captivates me is the strong story behind the brand. I believe that a successful brand combines a meaningful story and premium products that offers more than a functional item but a lovely experience by wearing. I like that these points are reflected on the home sections. So you can read hints of the stories that made the brand unique.

    – Secondly, the design of the scarves is incredibly vibrant and eye-catching with a strong palette of vivid tropical colours. The result on the design and fabrication process look unique and luxury.

    – Last but not east, I love the importance has been given to sustainability. It goes very well with the narrative of the brand and feel as part of the core values which gives it a strong weight to be related to within the Fashion industry.

Listening to Ms Neishaa Gharat speak, I was blown away by how much I resonated with her approach to design, fashion and culture. My goal is to always work with people who have the same outlook on using design to positively make a change in the world. I don’t like to think small, I like to aim big. I have been invited by Ladies, Wine & Design, Southampton chapter, to curate a workshop surrounding Design for Good and highlighting the importance of following our values in the workplace, as well as in our personal lives.

Being inspired by my own multicultural heritage makes me want to learn even more about other cultures too. I have grown up in a household filled with bright fabrics from all around the world, including African Batik and vibrant Indian Saris. I feel at home when surrounded by diverse beauty.

Conscious creation. A brand that is not afraid to push the boundaries of such a mundane and uninspired system is one I want the pleasure of working with. I can bring new ideas to the table and hopefully inspire designs and collections with my passion for the environment and ethical production.

    1. The description of fashion as a ‘superpower’ in the interview clip struck a nerve within me, it reinforced the notion that fashion is an integral and dominant force within our society and cultures. It is exciting to see that the house of gharats is a confident pioneering and revolutionary design house. I want to be part of this superpower brand and develop cutting edge fashion.

    2. House of Gharats’s collaboration with the commonwealth fashion council is truly fascinating, the fact that sea based materials can be incorporated into silk scarves simply elevates house of gharat and Neishaa Gharat to another league. I’m an eco-enthusiast and reading about blue fashion and the power of seaweed in fiber – has reminded me that fashion can play a positive role in people’s lives and protect the environment.

    3. The influence of Bombay on the house of Gharat’s designs, colours, and inspiration shows the depth of history, planning and craftsmanship underpinning the unique garments. This excites me as the vision and direction of the company is so dynamic and inspiring.

What are your 3 key internship objectives ?
    – My three key objectives in participating in an internship with your team, are…
    – To gain insight and learn from on a company that focuses on sustainable and ethical practices within the Textiles and Fashion industry.
    – To put in practice and improve on my Textiles Design/Print Design skills, and to learn to hone these skills to be of use in a professional and commercial manner.
    – To work closely, learn and experience from the daily work and in and outs of a company in this field.

Why House of Gharats, point 3 things on the website that mean something to you ?
    – 1. I believe we share a common goal that stems from the same fundamental questions that surround your brands ethos – Is it good for people? And is it good for our Plant?. These two questions resonate with me in both the direction of my work and personally.
    – 2. ‘The Wishing Net’: This project highlights the alarming climate crisis in our oceans, using upcycling with a focus of togetherness and community. These are areas in which are important to me and in which I would like to work with and learn from for future direction of my work
    – 3. ‘Oxfam Collection’: This fun styling fashion project is wonderful as it’s highlighting that fashion and creativity can be something that is also helpful to the wider community and touch areas outside of the fashion industry and purpose and kindness. Charitable and vintage upcycling are hugely something I also practice in my own styling, never opting to use fast-fashion practices in both my work and in my own wardrobe.

I believe the future of fashion is sustainability and inclusion. There needs to be focus on producing quality products that don’t destroy the environment and can last through generations. Being able to pass things down through family members creates sense of nostalgia and connection to our past. We also need to create more spaces for everyone to have a voice; women, BIPOC, and members of the LGBTQI+ communities.

Why House of Gharats, point 3 things on the website that mean something to you ?

    1. How the brand addresses the attention to moral issues and values: the importance of fashion sustainability, fair working conditions and empowering women.
    2. The Blue Fashion collection and how the brand distinguishes the importance of the oceans of this planet.
    3. The presentation of vibrant and eye-cathning prints of the scarves. To my mind, it indicates culturally different and interesting approach to fashion.

I have always had an interest in fashion since a young age. I believe my fashion sense has
always been slightly different to that of others, in the sense of being fashionable whilst not following the herd and being more colourful. I like the idea of wearing pieces of clothing that not many others are able to buy. I believe this is what you are trying to do with your brand as you mentioned creating “bespoke limited edition pieces” in one of your videos. It was also nice to hear you say “the story of the silk scarf begins in my sketchbook” as I myself have liked art and drawing since a young age. I am also fully bilingual in English and Spanish which allows me to communicate with many other countries, supporting your mission to “Change the world one scarf at a time.”

The emphasis on sustainability as a part of brand identity really resonates with me. I like that the Blog section illustrates just that, as well as adds a practical side to the customer. Also, knowing that all pieces are created with a purpose more than simply design is very interesting to me.
