The first thing about the brand that stood out to me would be the Indian culture carried throughout each scarf, enabling an audience and client to instantly take in the message that House of Gharats stands for. This unique blend of the East and West makes me feel incredibly proud, as to see patterns and pieces that I have grown up with make an appearance in luxury fashion is an incredibly gratifying thing to see and something that I believe should be more frequent in the fashion industry.
Secondly, House of Gharats’ focus on a sustainable approach towards design spreads the desperate need for companies to tend for our planet and protect it for the future generations. I am passionate about sustainability, and in the fashion industry in particular; I believe that people from all generations are now beginning to take interest in the protection of our planet.
Lastly, ’Design is one of the most powerful forces in our lives. It is a superpower and with it, we can change the world’. This point is crucial in recognising the great power that designers hold and their ability to broaden horizons and unlock the potential of things – therefore allowing the world to advance. The word ‘superpower’ allows me to believe that the ability is something that not everyone possesses and is something that just needs to be stimulated from within.

1) I love the sustainbility aspect of the website and how it is integrated within the work, ethos and impact on the enviroment without it being too overwhelming. Sustainability within fashion is very important to myself, therefore it is lovely to see this highlighted on the website.
2) The community built of either working for House of Gharats or being a customer. The blog is very interesting and I really like this aspect of the website as it creates an open discussion/community for the brand. Introducing other important aspects of life and not solely focusing on the products.
3) I also like the 50 ways to tie a scarf section. The vibrant animation is very fun and adds a personal touch from customer to maker.

What certainly struck me about the website is, first of all, the ability to give it an editorial mould, characteristic of the company that not only wants to sell a product, but they want to communicate their values clearly as a brand and have a very clear mission. Your commitment to the environment is clear. In addition, the bright colors and their strong contrasts undoubtedly create an optical effect that remains etched in the memory, a feature not to be put in the background when it comes to the website. Finally, as a third element, I want to indicate the practicality of the site, studying digital communication I immediately fell the eye on how functional it is!

I would like to join your team first because of your commitment in sustainability and the will to make it essential to fashion industry, not only by having a deep thought on your products but also by inspiring others and by demonstrating that this path is promising and full of possibilities.
I also love your artistic universe with all of the bright and bold colors but also an artistic universe developed thanks to stories, I love how each collection is linked to a deeper meaning and is not created just to make something pretty but mainly to express an idea or a story.
Besides, I like the importance you give to crafts in an our industrial word, I believe that crafts are a way to remain connected to our cultures but also a way to understand and truly connect with the materials and therefore being more respectful with materials which is the first step of sustainability. Maintaining the link with ancestral techniques also gives more sense to the products thanks to the stories and people behind which is essential today when fast fashion doesn’t make any sense.

Things on the website that mean something to me, the idea of meaningful design, that what is produced has a deeper purpose, and it also invites us to reflect.
On the other hand, producing pieces designed to last over time, that can be passed from generation to generation, which although it is very good for the environment, since it does not generate waste of the piece that is no longer used, gives you an added and unique value. I am one of those who search in grandmother’s closet, and I treasure clothes that are older than me.
The mission of empowering women and girls and with this generate not only a change in their lives, but in society. For me, women are the basis of society, and it is very important to find a way to improve their quality of life, since that entails a real change in the way they perceive themselves, and how this changes radically for the better, small communities.

1. House of Gharat’s home page states the sustainable concept of the brand. You are seeing this straight away!
2. Loved hearing about home in London and how it inspired your designs with being in a multicultural city. Your designs tell a story, and this resonates with me because university projects were based on meaning and storytelling.
3. Not just promoting your products but you are showing how to wear them in versatile ways which would give confidence to the buyer who might never have worn a scarf or want ideas how to wear a scarf in a new way.

I am inspired by your brands ability to create “synergies through art and fashion”, I feel my design vision and style can bring value to your team through my alliance to create unapologetically creative fashion outcomes, going beyond the traditional norms of pattern making, to communicate a tale of culture and purpose.
The two quotes “cherished things also reveal what we value” and “function as portraits in time” resonates with my goal and shared belief that we should create designs and fashion to last by allowing a relationship and memories to be built between the consumer and the garment. Fashion should create excitement in the wearer and a longing to care for and maintain its life in use.
“fanciful details and artful prints speak our story” I feel this quote really coincides with my goals as a designer and maker as my passion lies in using visuals to tell the story behind each piece and intrigue the viewer to learn more. I also have a love for applying intricate and unexpected details to a design to enhance the visual impact and playfulness of a textile.

3 things on the website that mean something to me
– First and most importantly that you adopt sustainable practices, viewing the environment both a source of inspiration but also an entity to preserve and treat kindly. It’s businesses like yours that should be the future of fashion.
-The website and your brand has a sense of culture and craftsmanship that a lot of modern day fashion businesses lack! It gives you a very unique selling point which is so important as the fashion industry grows and becomes increasingly saturated. You stand out.
– Finally, the designs and art of the scarves are visually dynamic and beautiful in themselves which I think customers always appreciate more. The ability to own something beautiful yet unique. I believe the more ways we can bring art into the world, the better.

I choose House of Gharats because I was fascinated by the accurate explanation and evidence of research that there is behind every scarf graphics. I believe in the power to transmit stories throughout fashion. Also, the dedication to sourcing new ways to produce high-quality fabric with sustainable materials. As a third motivation is the richness of colours and detailed design used for the scarf that I fall in love with the energy.

3 things I love about this Brand! first and foremost:
Complete transparency. Neishaa, this website is so accessible and friendly. I feel like I know you, your story, your inspiration and I feel confident that when purchasing your product I am making a great decision to not only buy into art and well crafted product, but also your passion.
The way each scarf is briefed on its inspirations and ways in which it can be styled is accessible and alluring.
Your use of colour and design Is stunning. I want to know more of how you draw on heritage stories, and develop them into such beautiful art works. I feel like each of your products has purpose and reason, nothing is created carelessly. looking through the collection, it inspires me to delve into my own heritage and get my own development process started.

3 things on the website that means something to me:
i) Ethos behind the design house:
I appreciate how the brand does not only empower designers with capabilities to better the human race, but also reminds us the responsibilities to protect the natural environment. A design is only deemed useful when it fulfils its intended purpose. “Form follows function” – I have learnt to go beyond the mere aesthetics, but more so, focus on a big idea behind my personal creations.
ii) Storytelling:
I believe that sensitivity in design does not come from imagination. Instead, it starts with one being aware of their reality, and therefore, finding solutions to make their dreams come alive; The process of problem-solving is where the story begins.
Storytelling is a highlighted quality in the Blue Fashion Scarf Collection. The negative consequences of fast fashion have been addressed, where heavy prices are paid that often jeopardise the well-being of natural habitat. Thus, starting from sourcing of materials, to the production of scarves, the whole movement supports sustainable blue economy. The underlying purpose resonates with the illustrations on the scarf design, where it visualises what it means to “co-exist” with the ecosystem.
Many would tend to focus on the final product, whereas I found magic in the process sketches on the website. As an architecture graduate, I tend to bring a sketchbook with me wherever I go out of habit. I believe that inspiration comes from all sorts of unexpected encounter, and that the process is where it all starts to make sense.
iii) Colour of culture:
By staying true to one’s root, it shapes their voice of identity. There is a sense of authenticity in the fabric of House Of Gharats, which I found mesmerizing. This is all due to the depth of knowledge over the culture, as it brings uniqueness and novelty to the fashion and textile industry. Perhaps fashion being “on-trend” is outdated. Perhaps we should focus more on a “timeless piece” as how the website described the creations by House of Gharats – on real people and crafts, which can be passed on through generations.

The culture of craft that is key to the House of Gharats is something that I love. For how authentic and timeless it is but also the passion that goes into creating things with craft and authenticity. The combination of Indian art and craft with contemporary British design is something I love and think is truly unique. They are distinctive yet classic which is why they work so well and are successful. This means something to me as throughout my time designing and studying textiles, since I was 16, taking it seriously I have always loved learning different cultures craft and skills, creating work that is something people want to hold onto and love for years to come, including batik, dyeing, shibori, natural dyeing, shisheh embroidery etc.
I also love the heritage that is part of the House of Gharats and the process that is used to create House of Gharats products. They are well thought out and show that passion is put into them, this is something that is important to me also. How this creates one of a kind designs which are also classic is something I love and invest in myself personally.
The commitment to make responsibly and sustainability is key and something I think is so important, for not only the future of fashion but all brands. It is so important that through the design process you overcome issues and find solutions to help be sustainable. This is something I did throughout my final year at university. Using only natural fabrics; worked largely with natural dyeing and quality items. This is something I would love to be a part of in helping innovate ways that people can be more sustainable with designing, making, consuming etc. This is also emphasised with the area on your website which in the interview discusses being a slow fashion brand. “We all have a piece in our wardrobe from our Nan or an object from the family heirloom that makes us feel rooted.” This is something that I find true for everyone and not only an intelligent way to design, making things that people will hold onto forever, establishing yourself as long lasting luxury, something that people admire to have and love owning them, but is also something that is very sustainable, not creating hundreds of designs a week which go out of fashion the next month. Stable and timeless designs are something I love and would be a dream to help create more of these and work with a company that I admire so much!

The three things that stand out to me within this website are the particular designs of Kalighat Cat Silk, Tea Party in Wonderland and Queens Horses. The colour ways really strike me, and the illustrative qualities in the line work make me feel slight links within my own drawing style and I really find them quite beautiful
