			<p>33 days till a temporary goodbye to Glasgow, and the beginning of a new adventure in Berlin. It&#8217;s been over two years since I have left London; and just 4 months short of 3 years since my first internship at <a href="https://www.houseofgharats.com/silk-scarf/">House of Gharats</a> which convinced me to move from fashion to graphic design. Looking back, the decision to work at House of Gharats can be described as one of those unexpected, positive surprises that life throws at you.</p>

			<div>I remember being a fresh graduate who had just moved to London picturing a booming social life, along with all the opportunities of being able to work in a well-known studio. As I&#8217;m sure you have heard, &#8220;London&#8217;s a fashion capital, opportunities are great&#8221;. And like many other young designers, I was quickly captivated by the facades of working in the glamorous fashion industry. It did not take long for reality to sink in &#8211; unpaid internships, long hours with harsh pay and an endless list of skills and experience that you should have.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Till today, having the opportunity to work at the House of Gharats was one of the most rewarding internships I had taken on. Unlike the norms of the fashion industry in London, it felt warm and encouraging &#8211; which I believe is what aspiring designers or even fresh graduates need. It is often that creative individuals struggle to find their own future direction but after spending 3 months in a positive, calm studio away from the hustle and bustle of London, it gave me an answer to &#8220;what should I do next?&#8221;</div>

		</div>
	</div>
</div></div></div></div><div style=""class="normal_height vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid"><div class="wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12"><div class="vc_column-inner"><div class="wpb_wrapper">

			<h4 style="text-align: center;"><b>Initial Departure Point to Now</b></h4>

		</div>
	</div>

	<div class="wpb_text_column wpb_content_element" >
		<div class="wpb_wrapper">
			<div>That ultimately led me to apply for a master&#8217;s course in Communication Design at the Glasgow School of Art, specialising in typography and publication design for my graduating project. Being so used to our technology and digital media, I felt the need to remind people of the authentic qualities of holding a physical copy of a book. Print is not dead. The tradition of holding paper books should not be abandoned.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Titled <em><a href="http://cassandra-tang.com/gallery/wunderkammer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://cassandra-tang.com/gallery/wunderkammer/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1554301960769000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHPN4I6T5HK1br6WleZq9e1_miZ6w">Wunderkammer</a></em>, it was a series of books featuring design responses towards the subject of &#8220;home&#8221;. The second issue of the publication focused solely on other designers in the design field. Looking to investigate the inner machinations behind a designer&#8217;s creative process, it only felt right to include the initial departure point of my journey which got me to the end of my master&#8217;s degree &#8211; Neishaa and our growing friendship (I say friendship because that&#8217;s how it felt like as opposed to an intern and designer relationships) at the House of Gharats.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Often in an aggressive, ambitious field like design, it is easy to be lost and forgotten amongst the others. The House of Gharats was featured in the publication not only because it had its own unique voice of the synthesis of traditional roots with modern design; but also because the brand stood for powerful messages that should be heard. Issues of &#8220;designing with a purpose&#8221; and maintaining tradition in a multicultural, global society as highlighted by Neishaa during the interview, are all relevant to today&#8217;s growing and changing world.</div>
<div></div>
<div>To all the fresh graduates or aspiring young creatives out there, as much as we are used to giving in to the harsh demands of the industry, it is important to remember that we don&#8217;t need to be slaves. Do not give in to ridiculous demands. Do not think that you need to know and do everything in order to secure a particular job. Do not romanticise the location &#8211; it means nothing if you&#8217;re working in a dingy studio in East London but running about getting coffee all the time. What matters is looking for real value; developing your skills and being responsible for genuine, creative work.</div>

			<p>People constantly say that internships and experiences are meant to help with networking and connections. However, from my various experiences in the last few years, it&#8217;s not often the case that it&#8217;s that easy. We are in a world where we have the opportunities to travel, to move, to experience the new. Even though I&#8217;ve moved away from London, and soon, the country, the only thing that has changed is more exciting opportunities.</p>

		</div>
	</div>
<div class="vc_separator wpb_content_element vc_separator_align_center vc_sep_width_100 vc_sep_border_width_3 vc_sep_pos_align_center vc_separator_no_text vc_sep_color_grey wpb_content_element  wpb_content_element" ><span class="vc_sep_holder vc_sep_holder_l"><span class="vc_sep_line"></span></span><span class="vc_sep_holder vc_sep_holder_r"><span class="vc_sep_line"></span></span>

In the end, you move on with confidence and a set of newly developed skills that can be added to your portfolio. It never felt like an end of a short internship at the House of Gharats, but rather a development into an ongoing collaborative spirit. </b></div>

<div>The next adventure awaits in Berlin &#8211; to bring together a collision of cultures; graphic design and fashion reflected through a set of collection of scarves and one-off book.</div>

			<h4 style="text-align: center;"><strong>Moving to London</strong></h4>
<div>A year in this mesmerising city has been an interesting roller-coaster ride. From living in the absolute comforts of ‘home’ with my parents to moving to the gigantic city &#8211; London, all by myself has been a lifetime experience and has moulded me into the person I am today.</div>
<div>On one hand I graduated with Majors in Economics and Minors in Psychology, Sociology; and on the other hand, I pursued my passion for fashion by studying Fashion Design.</div>
<div>Studying in London has always been on my list and now I am living the ‘London Dream’. So here I am, currently pursuing my Masters in ‘Luxury Brand Management’ from Regents’s University London, taking one step at a time towards achieving my goals.</div>

			<h4 style="text-align: center;"><strong>First Impressions</strong></h4>
<div>My internship application at <a href="https://www.houseofgharats.com/silk-scarf/">House of Gharats</a> was greeted with a long list of questions, demanding to be answered in an elaborative way to highlight my thought process and personality. My answers opened the doors of House Of Gharats for me.</div>
<div></div>
<div>One can imagine the mixed emotions of excitement and jitters felt in the core of your tummy while making your way to the ‘first day at work’.</div>
<div>My internship experience at House of Gharats provided me with an opportunity to meet a new version of me. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach screaming out loud a platter filled with emotions.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>I was warmly welcomed by Neishaa Gharat;  wide open arms, a huge smile on her blushed face and a sense of comfort in her eyes.  The cosy home studio, reflecting the very essence of the brand identity of <a href="https://www.houseofgharats.com/shop-2-2/pocket-square/">House of Gharats</a>; intelligent design, sophisticated, brightly coloured and fearlessly modern, with an unexplainable positive and motivating environment.</div>

			<h4 style="text-align: center;">Learning Experience</h4>
<div>My first week at <a href="https://www.houseofgharats.com/silk-scarf/">House Of Gharats</a> has been a combination of work, commitments, bonding, laughter and inspirations.</div>
<div></div>
<div>A few days in and the brand demanded from me the interest to engage in new website and social media portals that I was previously unaware of; from selecting another subject to study over ’Digital marketing’ as an elective subject during my Masters, House of Gharats made sure I got accustomed to that area in the very first week. That is when I knew that this is going to be a major learning experience for me.</div>

			<h4 style="text-align: center;">Daily Life Working at House of Gharats</h4>
<div>Working with Neishaa Gharat is not like any ordinary job, it is much more than that.  The hours happily skip away with regular bursts of culture, tradition, motivation and an extremely encouraging environment to give your best; from setting goals for the day is the first task in the mornings, to make sure they are achieved and locked away in the ‘done’ box by the end of the day, is our routine at the house studio.</div>
<div>House of Gharats provides with a free environment to grow and learn without actually being lectured or taught. It demands a new version of you each day with its changing goals and requirements.</div>
<div>At the end of each day, satisfied with the work undertaken and completed, I realised the importance of going back to the comforts of my bed, only to crash into blissful dreams and looking forward to the next day at work, at House Of Gharats.</div>
<div></div>
<div>One week in, and I already feel like I belong here, growing and developing with the brand.</div>

		</div>
	</div>

	<div class="wpb_text_column wpb_content_element" >
		<div class="wpb_wrapper">
			<p>Let me start somewhere. Denmark, weather as usual: rain, heavy wind and you are sitting at your room thinking about the future. Your school is pushing you to finish findings regarding internship, but you are not happy. Why? It is simple. I am the person with high expectations, a person with a personality to go for what she believes in and what she really want. Since the beginning of searching for my dream internship, I knew what I really wanted. I knew that the best place that I could picture myself live in and gain experience will be London. It is an amazing city with a lot of opportunities and different cultures which is something that I am interested in. Moreover, I am passionate about traveling, exploring new places, meeting new people, learning about new cultures and facing new challenges, hand in hand with my beliefs, it will lead me to fight for my destiny. My close friends, family, and people around me tried to talk to me and convince me that London will be bad and complicated choice. I did not listen to anyone and I stuck with my dream.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>There was a time when I lost my will and I could feel that the lack of responses from companies and huge competition in the city was hitting me hard. London is a place where you can basically find everything, everywhere is filled up with so many people. That affected me for some time while looking for my dream internship because I was aware of great, talented and more experienced people in London fighting for the same position as I am. My biggest disadvantage was the fact that I am a student from Denmark, not in the UK.</p>

		</div>

</div></div></div></div><div style=""class="normal_height vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid"><div class="wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12"><div class="vc_column-inner"><div class="wpb_wrapper">

		<div class="wpb_wrapper">
			<p>After not hearing any responses from internships in London, I began plan B which was to look for internships in another country. Suddenly, I received a response from a company in Germany and time was ticking. I had to make an important decision, should I sign a contract in Germany to be secure and focus on education more, or should I go for what I really want in my life? I am a person with a tendency to fight for what I believe in and I do not give up, so I sent the very last application to a company in London, called House of Gharats. It is a company where I could see a clear and interesting message to the world. I could also see a connection between an extraordinary designer, nature, sustainable fashion and the products being created. I do not know how to explain this, but I felt this is the right place to be. I decided to send my last application here and I was ready to wait and risk my &#8220;secure option&#8221;.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Two days to the deadline and I am still waiting for the response from House of Gharats, I am checking my phone every minute and not focusing on anything else, I am just waiting. (I hate waiting :D) Nothing…..Okay, I said. I must go with what I have, time is up. This whole situation reminded me of a cliché in a Hollywood movie, It was like I am holding a pen and almost signing the contract with the German company. However, out of nowhere, I received an email from Neishaa Gharat, that name was in my head for a very long time. Neishaa said in the email “I would love to have an interview with you”. I can not explain how I felt, but it was an amazing feeling and I was ready to fight for this position in House of Gharats. We set up the date &amp; time for the interview and I was looking forward to talking about everything that I want to bring to the company.</p>

			<p>Before the interview, I was a little bit stressed because my future was hanging on presenting myself well to the interviewer. After a few seconds of talking with her, I felt the connection and a very very good energy between us; I could talk freely and without any stress. The interview was very open and friendly, I felt like I was talking to a close friend, I loved it. When we finished, I was excited and ready to see what will happen next. However, I knew it will not be easy to get this position. A few minutes after the interview ended, I received an email with a task, Neishaa wanted to see how I can handle work under pressure. It was an amazing moment when I realised that it is all in my hands now, I can get this position and in the city of my dreams. A few days later it was real, the contract was signed, my internship experience at House of Gharats started and both sides were ready and happy to collaborate. My school approved everything, and I can start with serious plans to move to the UK.</p>

			<p>After a long semester, a stressful period where I was alone and thinking about what I really want to do with my life, I needed a break. My best friend Agnes (a beautiful Kenyan woman) asked me to go with her back home in December (Christmas/New Year) to see her home and find out more about her culture. I was grateful, and I could not believe that it is all happening. Having an internship experience in House of Gharats London as well as going to Africa for the first time in my life and with my best friend. Both destinations really mean something to me and they are close to my heart. As I said before travelling and exploring new places is something that you have to do to become a more open-minded person and it makes you understand the world much more. This was the reason why I was not thinking about money; I was not thinking about practical issues, such as the stressful period when I will be coming home and going straight away to London. I just closed my eyes, forgot about reality, tried to enjoy the moment there in Kenya, go back home with a fresh mind and be ready to change my future.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>It was maybe 3 days before Christmas and I found a missed call from my boss, Neishaa. When I first saw the missed call, I felt stressed. I didn’t know what was going on, I had a lot of pessimistic thoughts and questions in my head like “What if she doesn’t want me anymore, what if something bad happened, what if…”, the only way to find out was to call her. To my surprise, it was just a friendly call, it was really nice to hear that someone who I have never met before in person was calling just to make sure I am okay. While I was in Kenya, we were in touch and I was very happy that I could share my moments there with my amazing boss.</p>

			<p>My journey in Kenya had to come to an end, it was time to say bye to my friends and go ahead with my next journey in life. On the 11th of January, I arrived at the airport in Denmark. On the 12th of January, I was at Stansted Airport (in London) with the future in my hands. How fast can everything change right? Time is unstoppable and it is just up to you on how you will spend it. I decided to go through a new direction and start something special, thanks to House of Gharats I am here and I am living my dream.</p>

			<p>Time flies. It has already been one month after I started working with the best creative designer who is beautiful, talented, empathic, carrying and an open-minded soul. Since our first meeting, I feel like Neishaa is my friend, not only my boss. I feel like anytime I have a problem, I can talk to her and we can find a solution, no matter what. Being here without my family and friends is sometimes hard, but as the first thing that Neishaa told me “We are here, we are like your family, remember that so that no matter what happens we will always help”. These words touched my heart and opened a new chapter in my journey.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>My first priority when working somewhere new is to be familiar and comfortable with the work environment, that was not difficult at all, seeing that House Of Gharats’ office is a small and cosy studio in a quiet area in the often loud and busy London.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The second important thing was getting in touch with the real and luxury <a href="https://www.houseofgharats.com/silk-scarf/">silk scarves</a> because seeing them on the website I thought they were beautiful but having them in my hands and seeing them in a real life was awesome; the details, quality and the designs are just amazing, they are something that scarfs lovers will always cherish. Finally, the third priorities were to familiarise myself with how the company works, what will be my main responsibilities, what is mine and Neishaa’s expectations and how can we deliver the best results together. As a Marketing &amp; Communication intern, I started to understand what our main strategy is; how we will use social media to promote our products and how we can grow our audience. Furthermore, I have tried to do my best with delivering my observations, new ideas and strategies. Honestly, sometimes I do not feel like I am working because I enjoy every part of my work, every day is different, I am constantly facing new and exciting challenges. One of the biggest challenges I faced was Valentine&#8217;s Day, we decided to do a campaign which was one great experience for me. Moreover, this is just the beginning, I can not wait for what is waiting for me in the next upcoming 5 months. One thing that I am afraid of is that my internship experience at House of Gharats will go very fast and saying goodbye to these wonderful people will be heart-breaking, this is because I already feel like I belong here and I am a part of this small family.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">At <a href="https://www.houseofgharats.com/shop-2-2/pocket-square/">House of Gharats</a> we love new experiences and friendships our internships bring. We expect more than running errands and making coffees. They have the opportunity to work on real projects and deliver on deadlines! Cassandra was a real star, fun, problem solver, enthusiastic, meticulous, the list is endless. Here are her thoughts about her experience.</p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;">&#8220;Working at the House of Gharats has been an amazing, and too short an experience that flew by so quickly. I never seemed to think of the six weeks internship as a job but rather, a collaboration between different minds, all sharing the same excitement of creating beautiful art and forming connections with other like minded artists. <span class="">Being able to work alongside Neishaa Gharat has both been an incredible journey, as well as an inspirational one. Alongside the invaluable experiences and advice, (the amazing Italian coffee and cakes for tea didn’t hurt either), it has also reignited my forgotten passion for graphic design. It will be hard to forget the days of working in the little studio, with the views of the green garden and the occasional London winter sunshine, as well as the friendships formed in the tightly knitted team.” </span></p>
