Popular Fashion Meets Pop Art in POPulist

Vivid in colour, bold in design, and inspired by consumerist culture, it is no surprise that Pop Art has emerged as a major fashion muse.

From the timeless sketches of Andy Warhol to the comic strip-esque prints of Roy Lichtenstein, Pop Art has popped up among the work of labels like Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and Dior. To capture the close-knit relationship between the modern movement and the wonderful world of designers, artist-photographer Ram Shergill and fashion director Margherita Gardella have created POPulist, an eye-catching feature in the AW14 issue of Drama Magazine.

In POPulist, model Grace Bol dons two House of Gharats signatures: a suit and a scarf. The vibrant two-piece suit is accessorized with a distinctive Philip Treacy hat and clutch and, with its repeating patterns and candy colours, it offers a new twist on the Pop Art aesthetic. And the scarf, bright yellow and paired with head-to-toe Moschino, gives the black, white, and gold-accented look a particularly pertinent ‘pop’ of colour.

Bright and bold, the looks featured in POPulist clearly blur the line between contemporary couture and modern art – proving once and for all that fashion can quite literally be a work of art.
